Is that so? [Nov. 18th, 2009|11:59 pm]
[mood | disappointed]

I called up Ben Franklins today to speak to the frame shop manager about my application. I got the typical response I was kinda expecting for this entire area. It was more or less along the lines of, "We aren't hiring right now. If you handed in an application we'll get to it when we get to it." She also didn't ask my name even though I was obviously interested nor did she say good bye; just hung up on me. Oh well, I guess finding a job around here is kinda like playing the lottery. Either that or you have to know people around the area, which I don't since all the people I knew moved. Oh bother.

I AM NERD =B [Nov. 17th, 2009|12:25 pm]
[mood |creative]

I say corny things to cheer people up. In this case [info]farx. :)

So I called up Ben Franklins today to check up on my application. The girl on the phone told me the manager for the rest of the store won't be in for a long while, but the manager for frameshop will be in tomorrow. So I may go in and talk directly to her about it.

Today I really need to find my matboard samples so I can order some mats from Dick Blick to frame some pictures. Oh, I'll probably also order some more markers and various paper while I'm at it. I really need a job so I can not feel so guilty when I buy all my art supplies. :P

What a Soggy Week [Nov. 14th, 2009|10:19 pm]
[mood | blah]

My little sister suggested I make this picture after our first disappointing day this week.

So let me explain why this week was rather disappointing. To start things off, on Thursday we were planning on going up to Williamsburg to go to a chocolate shop/coffee shop with mom's friend Cathy. Unfortunately for us remnants of hurricane Ida were pounding us that very day. At first we thought it really wasn't too bad, yet when we were out to get gasoline for my car we noticed my windows were fogging up and wouldn't defrost correctly. It so happens there's a film all over the windows in the car which I suspect is Armor All cleaner. Earlier today me and my older sister took alcohol to the windows and then started using glass cleaner which appeared to work at cleaning it off.

Since we didn't get to go out that day we went back home and found other things to do; such as my sisters making a really pretty peacock pin to go on my little sister's cat. I might take a picture of it later to show how it turned out. Even though it took them a while to make it I suggested they try making them to sell. Seriously, whenever they make polymer clay pendants or sculptures they turn out really nice. It's a shame I don't share the same knack for sculpting as they do.

Later that same day my cat was limping because she's old and has weak hips, so I went over to find out if she was okay. She had a muscle spasm and bit my right index finger quite hard; hard enough to draw blood. It was really red and kinda swollen earlier today so I've been soaking it in epsom salt water to draw out the toxins and whatever else may have gotten in there. Right now my hand is fine so far which is good.

You know what is actually really ironic about that entire day? It was right before Friday the 13th. If out all days bad stuff should've happened by superstitious law that day should have been it. But no, it happened the day before and the next day was fine. Well, okay, it wasn't fine because our phone/internet/television was out from late the night before till noon on Friday. Then later in the day it died again which was rather annoying. On the upside I finally got myself a pay as you go cell phone because mom was worried from not being able to call us.

Anyway, that was pretty much how my week went so far. On Monday I have a bunch of stuff I have to get done and perhaps call up on my application I gave in to Ben Franklins since I haven't been able to even call anywhere. At least tomorrow I can sleep in instead of waking up as early as I have been. :)

Isn't that right, Jim?([info]farx) (He's partly to blame for this comic :P)

FURRIES [Nov. 11th, 2009|07:23 pm]
[mood |dorky]

I almost bust out laughing earlier because of something my older sister said. We were watching Ripley's Believe it or Not on TV and they were showing the episode with the leopard man; you know, the man covered in leopard pattern tattoos and lives on his own island. Anyway my sister said, "You know those people who make animal mascot outfits? Some of them make ones with all the moving parts on the face and whatnot. Furries, yeah, that's what they're called. They're funny. It would be amusing to put them on that island and freak the guy out. :D"

To be honest, I would have to agree with her. That WOULD be scary!

[mood | amused]

I went and dropped off an application for a Ben Franklins store nearby. They were busy at the front register where you would normally drop the application off so I went to ask another girl who was pricing products. Since I have a high range of voices I went with the older woman style greeting to see her reaction. Yup, she called me ma'am and then went, "Oops!" It was kinda funny. :)

*cracks knuckles* [Nov. 9th, 2009|11:10 am]

So let me explain what happened to me and my mom the other day. She's going on a trip tomorrow and she doesn't have her own laptop so dad actually agreed to letting her buy this $329 Toshiba at Best Buy that was a fairly nice laptop for her needs. The bad part is when we went to get it the people in the computer department kept trying to sell us warranty plans and extra stuff that we really didn't need. The part that pissed us off quite badly was when he was trying to offer us the service where they would remove all the bloatware and extra programs that aren't needed. I said I would be able to do that myself and the guy arrogantly asked, "Oh yeah? How do you do it then." He then gloated about, "Yeah, it requires registry editing which we'd have to do for you." to which I replied, "CCleaner can do that just fine and anybody can use that." He backed off after I said that and then he went on to harassing my mom about the warranty plans. I eventually told my mom, "Just buy the laptop by itself." The fact that his co-worker was snickering the entire time in a demeaning manner wasn't very nice either.

Now the really troubling issue is how he was trying to push the warranty issue about how you could get it replaced if there were any hardware issue(Even though I've talked to plenty of people who say Best Buy is a load of bullshit when it comes to warranties :D ) and because we didn't get it he said, "Well, have a nice day. I hope we don't see you in here any time soon again." Yes, I kid you not, that is what he said. We were going to complain to a manager about what happened but the store was quite busy and so were we since we had a lot to get ready due to mom going on her trip so we bought it and left. But because of this service, which I have experienced more than once from this retailer, I am going to write a well thought out complaint to the company about how we were treated becuase that was most definitely not proper sales etiquette AT ALL. He really needed somebody to beat some sense into his head, but knowing me I would've ended up knocking the sense out of him instead... That, and being charged with assault.

Oh really [Nov. 6th, 2009|07:05 pm]
[mood | blah]

Oh, silly Ashton([info]chebomatic). :)

I haven't received any word back from places I've applied to, but I got myself an application from Ben Franklins that I have filled out and just need to take it back in. They seem really laid back and nicer at that store compared to say, Michaels, and I know for a fact I can call them up to ask about the application since they actually give you a piece of PAPER to fill out and take back in instead of pointing to a computer that keeps all applications in some database nowhere near this place.

Mom and dad leave for Ohio on Sunday. Mom wants to get a laptop for herself to take along since she doesn't have her own computer to use. I found one at Best Buy for around $349 that's an Acer. Normally I considered Acers to be kinda cheap computers and Toshiba ones to be better, but from my experience with my little sister's and dad's Toshiba laptops I think their quality when sold cheaper is generally, well, cheap, so I figure we might as well get the Acer one that appears to have more power to run Windows 7 anyway. Mom doesn't do anything that needs a whole lot of power anyway so I doubt it would wear down easily from what she would use it for.

I made a bit of fanart recently just for fun.

GRAAAAAWWWWWWRRRRRG [Nov. 3rd, 2009|01:46 am]
[mood | tired]
[music |Buck Fever - Super Buck II]

  • It's ugly here.
  • The air is bad.
  • People are rude.
  • I'm lonely.
  • I still haven't been able to get a job.
  • Everyone I knew moved.
  • My close friends live either far north or far south of me.
  • I'm lonely.
  • It's ghetto here.
  • It's ugly here.

RAAAAAAAWWWWEEERRRRR! Okay, I feel better. I applied for a job at both World Market and Radio Shack. Here's hoping (doubtfully) that I will get a call from one of them. I may try calling up World Market and asking if I can check up on my application and perhaps they won't be complete assholes about inquiring to it like other places I've tried that at(Hence why I'm not usually keen on asking around here.)Still haven't gotten any call from Toys R' US even though I applied for a holiday temp position, but seeing that most of their workers are older people I don't think I'm going to be able to get a job there anyhow, but I should just stay optimistic, ya' know? :) I should also try that coffee shop mom's friend Cathy suggested I apply for since they are, as she says, inclined to hiring people who were homeschooled. The only issue with applying there is that it's probably around 25-35 minutes away. I suppose if the pay were good enough it would make up for the gas and driving.

Now that it is officially November that means I have to actually search faster for things I want to send some people for Christmas. I got a few things for certain people over a month ago, but I haven't been able to really figure anything out for Shawn or Jim. Well, I know what I want to make for Jim, but it may end up late. As for Shawn, he's hard to shop for. He actually told me he didn't want anything, but I'd like to find at least something special to send him. I'm usually really bad at figuring out what to buy as gifts for people so a lot of times I end up making things which is kinda neat except I sometimes feel a bit cheap when I get something in return that is somewhat expensive.

Sometime in the future it would be nice to actually be able to give friends their presents in person instead of always just sending it out and watching them open it over a webcam. It's really not horrible, but it's not like you can actually feel their reaction to it. I'm really sensitive to feeling peoples' auras so it's a different feeling for me. Then again it's probably like that for most people.

Anyway, I was recently as scum-mart(Wal-Mart, as Jim and I agree it's for scummy people which I'm not, but mom and I go there when desperate. Funny, Shawn loves going there, but he's a redneck so I guess that's okay. :D )where I happen to find two button up shirts that actually fit me! The only downside is they're just flat colors with no patterns or anything. I prefer to get vertical striped shirts since they give the illusion of looking taller when layered with a jacket. Oh well, I can't be too choosy since they actually fit. Poor mom can't find anything that looks good and fits her. Everything fashion wise this year is absolutely horrible; even more horrible for the women.

I told [info]farx(Jim) that I would take him out to dinner if we ever meet up, but I sure as heck would not take him to a place that has a bill like THIS. We'll just go to a sit down place or get a $20 Wendy's value menu binge. XD

Father Time probably has a lot of strokes from the time change. [Nov. 1st, 2009|10:39 am]
[mood | embarrassed]

Today was America's daylight savings time where time falls back an hour. I don't mind this time change as much as spring forward, but in general the time change still makes no sense to me and I can see why many nations chuck the idea in general. Aside from, I feel like I saved myself an hour due to it and that's kinda nice because it's supposed to give us more sunlight during the morning. Unfortunately it's raining outside so that purpose has been voided. :D

My Halloween, as usual, was uneventful and rather boring, but I don't mind since I never did anything on the holiday(Holy Day? Seriously?) to begin with. About the most eventful thing I did was go out with mom to buy printer ink and dinner. What's really funny is that we almost went to Wendy's again which I realized we had done almost every Halloween for the last three years. After reminding her about the lines of people getting food at the place we went to Arby's instead where I got a cheddar beef sandwich - so yummy.

Oh yeah! The jack-o-lantern mom made!

Sourcream Ones, Please [Oct. 23rd, 2009|01:12 pm]
[mood |Meh]

[info]emlow must really like donuts.

The weather has gotten warm again. Oh bother.

It was up in the 80's today and to top it off it was also humid. And to make matters even worse the mosquitoes are out again. All I want is for it to cool down and the mosquitoes to stop eating me so I exercise outside or just stand in the (somewhat) fresh air. Oh well, perhaps by the end of November it'll be nice and cool outside.

I was talking to [info]ashton the other day and we ended up talking about the game Altered Beast. When I was growing up I fondly remember playing the game on the Sega Genesis and liking it a lot. So I thought it would be fun to go down memory lane and play the original arcade version. What a big mistake that was! I can't even begin to describe how horrible the game play is in that game! It's so bad it's actually almost hilarious. The most pointless move in the entire game is crouching and doing a kick as a human because your character does this kick straight up that can't hit anything at all; not even flying character that come down to get you. Golden Axe which was made later was by all means much better. Besides, that game let you play as a woman in a red bikini or a short gnome who uses lightning. Can't complain there!

Nothin' much else to say. Here's some art stuffs.

CHILL TIME [Oct. 18th, 2009|01:05 am]
It has gotten nice and cool outside finally! Oh, how I love it! No longer do I feel like my body is dehydrating itself when I go outside to exercise and the air also smells so much cleaner and fresher. I don't think I belong in a warm climate zone like here at all, or at least not somewhere where the humidity spikes a lot and the climate changes so often due to being between two temperate zones. It makes my sinuses scream with agony! But aside from the ocassional sinus headache I love this weather.

[info]alaskawolf sent me a bunch of awesome things straight from Alaska along with some money for a few commissions. Take a look!
Alaskan Delights )

For my geeky section today I don't really have anything to talk about. I'm playing through Final Fantasy VI Advance on my PSP and I've been playing Armore Police Batrider and Battle Backraid on boss mode. I would record a gameplay video of it but I can't seem to get my emulators to record properly. Oh, speaking of emulators, there was this interesting thing I found on Deal Extreme a while ago called a Dingoo which is like a mini Linux machine; sorta like the GPX2. From what I read about them they're very sturdy, run a fair amount of emulators at a nice speed fairly well, and it can be used as an MP3 player and eBook reader along with various other functions. If I had some extra money to spare I might consider getting one because my DS was used for most of those things and it's currently not functioning at the moment due to some stupid circumstances and buying one of these would probably be cheaper than buying a new DS and/or fully repairing the one I have now. The other fascinating thing about it is that there's groups of people who make custom firmware and emulator updates for the thing, again, like the GPX2, meaning a lot of improvement could be made for it.

I have some very various artwork for today.

Thanks a lot Columbus [Oct. 13th, 2009|12:31 am]

This was [info]farx's fault.

When I woke up today, that being Monday since it's now Tuesday since it's past 12:00 A.M. - ANYWAY, I had things planned today such as mailing out some prints and artwork and also cashing my check from Dr. Delako. Unfortunately for me I noticed dad was home today so I took a peek at the calendar and realized, that's right, it was Columbus Day. It's honestly one of those days that just kinda annoys me to no end. School stays in sessions, stores are still open, but anything government related, or in my case even the bank, are closed. Oh well, I get to do everything tomorrow (or today?) I suppose.

PUN [Oct. 10th, 2009|11:46 pm]
[mood |artistic]

[info]alaskawolf told me this very corny pun. XD

Weekends are normally great for most people, but for me when I have important things to do and places I have to go to close early on Saturdays and aren't even open on Sundays it annoys the heck out of me. I have some prints to mail out and I have a check from [info]emlow to cash. Speaking of that check you should see what he sent it in.
Del, you're such a funny ass :D )

So, recently I finished watching the entire second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. All I can say is that if you watch it you'll probably only want to watch episodes 1,2,10 and up. Why? Because from episodes 2 to 8 it's the same episode with just changing aspects to it. Deja vu episodes, very much like Groundhogs Day but without Bill Murray and as much humor. Aside from that though the rest of it was interesting how they linked up the rest of the story from the first season so you understood how they created their little film.

HOW VERY CLIMINAL!

I recently realized I could set the ranking difficulty up in Raizing games through the dip switches. Now the game is way better than before since there are a whole lot more bullets to evade which makes it easier for me to see where to move. I don't know why I do better when there are more bullets; I'm just weird like that.

Anyway, artwork time.

I don't have a whole lot to even update yet I felt the need to anyway. I've been somewhat busy with making pixel animated icons for various people which I will show you later into this update. First though, I would like to direct your attention to why airbags are so very scary and why these guys are always such an entertainment twice a week.

That thing exploded in only a few seconds! :D

Here's a little extra something I found due to [info]prguitarman

This was definitely done by the same people who animated Powerpuff Girls, but most DEFINITELY more bizarre.

Gee, what else... I suppose some geek section would be fun. I've recently gotten somewhat hooked on Armored Police Force Batrider which is an older shooter made by Raizing. The thing that makes their shooting games almost harder than CAVE games in a way is that, sure, the bullets are a lot smaller, but your hitbox is also larger and the bullets go faster. In CAVE games your hitbox is smaller, the bullets are larger(but have small hitboxes), and they move in enormous bullet patterns where you can see where you should be moving. Here's a boss rush mode of Batrider, although the person was using a dipswitch to be invulnerable to demonstrate what 'A' rank mode bosses are like.

Anyway, here's some art stuffs.

Oh Bother! [Sep. 28th, 2009|02:55 pm]
[mood | annoyed]

*shrug* I dunno.

Wow, so on Friday I got part of my order from DickBlick which had all my pencils and markers in it. The Faber-Castel markers are absolutely awesome even though there aren't quite as many colors as one would hope for(at least my case), but the Le-Plume II ones come in more colors that I want so I need to save up to get those. As for the paper I ordered... it arrived today and it's not quite the kind of paper I was expecting because it's a lighter weight than my normal paper and it has a rougher texture to it. It'll probably work well for marker works, but I'm not thrilled about trying it out with colored pencils since I try blending everything really nicely when using them which works best on the Martha Stewart paper I commonly use. Speaking of the Martha paper, I stopped by Michaels today to see if by any chance they had gotten anymore of it in. To my horror and dismay there was even less of the Martha paper and it was still on clearance. I grabbed the last of the swan colored paper they had; a lovely six sheets. I'm not sure what I'm going to do other than have to try out various other types of paper, that is unless perhaps some of you have a Michaels that has teh 18X18" Putty colored sheets of this paper and would gladly buy it for me. I'd pay for the paper and the shipping most gladly.

Oh, Logan! [Sep. 22nd, 2009|01:13 am]
[mood |artistic]

I was playing Soul Calibur IV on my PSP and fooling around with the character creation part of it. I could not resist making Logan once I saw what one of the faces and hair looked like together. Combining Logan with Voldo is like making a Wolverine that does interpretive dance. Hur hur hur~ :D

A few days back I had to order a bunch of art supplies from my favorite site, Dick Blick, because when I went to Michaels to see if they had my favorite tan/putty colored craft paper it was out of stock and all the other larger sheets were on clearance. In other words that could very well mean they were discontinuing my favorite colors which makes me sad. Aside from that though I did find out that Dick Blick carried other colored craft paper that may work just as well. I say may because Martha Stewart craft paper is heavenly for colored pencil and I haven't found anything quite close to it yet. Also after finally getting ahold of [info]trufflehog I was able to ask her what kind of brush pen/markers she used for coloring because me and my little sister both want to try coloring in her style(although I want to do more mixed media with it). The only downside I can see to ordering all this stuff is that it's sent by FedEx and for some reason they are absolutely, undoubtably, most DEFINITELY the slowest postal service for getting stuff to where I live. Last time I ordered something they sent it to three different states until finding handing it off to USPS to get it here; it was listed in the tracking. It makes me sad when I have to order art supplies sometimes because I took commissions to make some money, and yet a lot of it went back into buying more stuff. Oh well, that's how it goes I suppose.

So recently mom and I were at K-Mart, you know, that place that you only shop at when they have a sale too good to pass up or you're just plain desperate. Or perhaps the ones near me are just really bad. Anyway, they had a $5 DVD bin and they had "The Sandlot" which is one of my favorite films. I snatched that up fast! There are just so many things I like about the film; the surroundings, the era, and the fact that it has a narrator in it telling you what he thought about the whole situation as kid but from an adult's perspective. You don't find movies quite like this anymore so it's a real gem in my book. And speaking of true gem... this is probably one of the funniest scenes in the film.

I crack up so much when I see this scene because that smile he has reminds me of my one goofy cousin. Yeah, I can somehow see him doing something like that. :D

Life has been fairly uneventful lately, but that's usually the case for most people I guess. I've been applying for jobs still and I happened to get a somewhat of a reply from Toys R' US saying they may have a position open soon and will contact me if so. That's a bit uplifting and encouraging. Other than that I've been practicing my ukulele still and currently have some art commissions to work on. Speaking of which, I'm offering my $10 Pictures thing again, so if you're interested in one send me a note on that page if you have an account there or send me an LJ-message.

Something to Remember [Sep. 1st, 2009|01:00 am]
[mood | annoyed]

When you play a GBA game on your PSP using an emulator make sure you save the game and before shutting down the system, exit the emulator first. I was playing Mother 3 for the past week and I had pretty much just kept putting the system into sleep mode to pick it up and play again later. Little did I realize, the emulator doesn't save the save data unless you exit the emulator to the main menu. I turned the system off while in the emulator when I was on chapter 7. When I started the game back up again it was at the save point I made back in chapter 2. I think it's going to be a long while before I'm willing to play the game again to get back to the point I was at. :|

Aside from that little setback with my game I started to learn a bit more of my ukelele today. While searching youtube I found this instructional teacher who teaches how to play it quite well and clearly. I'm going to spend my time trying to learn from his videos and any other useful instructional videos. One thing I need to do is actually let my fingernails grow out a bit so strumming is a bit easier because right now I have no fingernails sticking out from my meaty fingertips - also known as video game button fingers according to my one cousin.

Earlier today I went with mom to take dad to the airport. I dunno why, but whenever I go to an airport it feels almost identical to walking into a police office. It must have something to do with the fact that it feels like you're under their control and will to even go on the plane. Anyway, dad's going to Florida because of work and he won't be back for a while. I hope he has fun. :)
